New Prisons boss sworn into office

President William Ruto witnessed the installation of the new Commissioner General of prisons Mr. Patrick Mwiti Arandu Wednesday, who was appointed on the 12th of July, to replace outgoing Brigadier. (Rtd) John Warioba, who proceeded to a terminal leave, months before end of his tenure. Warioba was a widely experienced former soldier, who was appointed to office by the then president Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Mr. Ruto, this is among the many steps his government is taking to catalyze reforms in the correctional department, at least according to a post on his official X handle. “We are transforming our correctional practices from punishment to rehabilitation so as to empower prisoners and prepare them for productive participation in the running of our country,” Ruto wrote on X.
